DEC 28 — Things are often funny in Malaysia. You have to see the funny side, guffaw and let the moment pass. Stay in the moment and you will laugh yourself to madness.

Laughter is probably our only coping mechanism. Therefore, political texts/emails /YouTube videos are never in short supply. We laugh at the actors and then ourselves. TIM — This is Malaysia.

Follow the leader, follow the leader

I believe the children are the future or just another brick on the wall?

DEC 17 — My column in The Malaysian Insider talked about ideas and I’ll like to provide an appendix to that discussion.

In my second year in uni I took up a course in critical and creative thinking under former dean Prof Dr Ahmad Bajunid. There were just the three of us and classes were after Friday prayers, which are the slots everyone on campus works hard to not have.

Ini permulaan

DIS 13 — Kepada pembaca blog “prabaganesan.wordpress.com”,

Waktu saya masih di sekolah menengah ayah adakala membeli surat khabar Bahasa Malaysia pada hujung minggu. Memang saya akur oleh kerana pilihan sekolah saya, penduduk di kawasan tempat tinggal saya dan bahasa pergaulan keluarga pada masa itu saya lebih gemarkan surat khabar Bahasa Inggeris. Itu dan kandungan dalam “English papers” yang lebih dan mendalam.

Itu bukan sebab penulis dan pengarang di dua surat khabar utama di Malaysia kurang berkebolehan berbanding dengan pasukan di “English papers” — yang medapat majority daripada isi kandungan hujung minggu dari sumber antarabangsa seperti Reuters, AFP, AP dan juga hasil tulisan dari akhbar-akhbar luar negeri.

Oleh itu, perbandingan antara suratkhabar dalam dua bahasa ini agak sukar, tidak berada dalam “level-playing field”.   Continue reading “Ini permulaan”
